A must-do once on a first UAE trip — the park itself genuinely holds up. But the paid excursions on top of it (Dolphin Bay in particular) end with an aggressive photo-package upsell that spoils the day. Book it once, walk the park, skip the added excursions, and don't feel the need to come back on every Dubai holiday. Score: 6.5/10. Roughly one visit in five to the UAE is about right — otherwise Madinat or JBH wins on breadth and value.

• Value — 5/10. Day ticket at around £630 (after promo) is defensible for what the park delivers. The added photo package — £450 for a USB stick — is not, and dominates the value calculation if you get caught by it.

The Good

• The waterpark itself is a genuine day out: bigger footprint than its main Dubai rival, more slides, and the well-known shark-tunnel runs as the signature.
• The lazy river is a proper highlight — longer than most, with rapids and conveyor-belt lifts back to the top.
• The dolphin swim at Dolphin Bay delivers on what it promises: a shallow-water introduction followed by the full swim.
• Booked with a promo code and a pricing quirk, the day came in at £630 against a quoted £722 — respectable for what's on offer.

The Bad

• The photo boutique after the dolphin swim is an aggressive, opaque upsell. A USB stick of around 160 images was quoted at £450 — against a base spend of £630 for the whole day.
• Individual prints were pitched at £25, a small selection at £75, and only after pushing back did a lower-resolution email download of the full set appear at £175. No pricing is shown before you're standing in front of your own photos.
• Half-board dining at Atlantis is narrow — five or six restaurants — versus nearly forty across a Madinat stay.
• If you fall for the photo package on your first visit, the day's value collapses. It's not the park's fault, but it is the park's problem.

The Detail

The lesson is straightforward: book it once, do the waterpark, skip the paid excursion photo shop. Dolphin Bay itself is a fine experience — the sting comes only afterwards, in a room lined with professional shots you didn't know were being taken until they're offered back to you at £450. A single print is roughly 25p to produce commercially, so the mark-up on the digital package is enormous; negotiate hard if a photo souvenir matters, and expect to land around £175 for an emailed set. Better still, do the swim without the photo booking on the way out. On the park itself: it holds up well against its main Dubai rival, with a slightly larger footprint, more slides, and a stronger lazy river. Worth a day-ticket on a first trip. Not worth staying at the resort for — a Madinat-based hotel offers considerably more restaurant breadth and value for a similar spend.
