Cocoon Ocean Villa, Peyia: The Self-Catering Week That Works

A villa on the Paphos side of Cyprus, two minutes from Coral Bay, booked through Airbnb for a two-week summer stay. No sailing this time, no big resort — just a private villa, a car, and a local shop run.

The Verdict

Close to faultless. The villa is private, spacious, and immaculately kept, the host communication was five-star throughout, and the location strikes the right balance between quiet and convenient. We'd book this again without hesitation.

The Scorecard

• Location — 9/10 — Two minutes to Coral Bay, private and quiet, though too remote to walk anywhere else of interest — a car is essential.
• Space / layout — 9/10 — Three floors, a spare unused bedroom, master with ensuite, two further twin ensuites — genuinely well planned.
• Kitchen — 8/10 — Fully equipped down to a Nutribullet and coffee machine; only the outdoor BBQ lets the side down.
• Cleanliness — 10/10 — Weekly cleaners left the place immaculate, no exceptions.
• Comfort — 9/10 — Air con with no arbitrary timers, a clean daily-maintained pool, naturally warm in August.

• Value — 8/10 — Cheap taxis, a large water park an hour away, a smaller one twenty minutes out — good value for the space and privacy.

The Good

• Private and remote enough to avoid noise and disturbance, without losing convenience.
• Large villa with a spare bedroom going unused — properly sized for the group.
• Hosts were responsive and helpful throughout, sourcing extras on request.
• Weekly cleaning was thorough enough to leave the villa immaculate every time.
• Fully equipped kitchen — Nutribullet, coffee machine, washing facilities, and air conditioning with no restrictive timers.
• Two minutes' drive to Coral Bay, with cheap taxis available for evenings out.
• Clean, daily-maintained pool that stayed warm through August heat.

The Bad

• The outdoor barbecue is a cheap, basic metal stand with a fixed tray that's awkward to clean — worth replacing if renting long-term.
• The entrance and access road are poorly lit and hard to find after dark.

The Detail

The villa is a fifteen-minute drive from anywhere of real interest, so a hire car is non-negotiable — but that trade-off buys total privacy. Splitting time roughly 50/50 between cooking in and eating out worked well. For eating out, Alexandra's (steak and fish) and Dolce Vita (Italian) on the main high street were standouts, and Oniro — a more upmarket seafront spot reachable by taxi or car — is worth the extra effort. The layout runs over three floors: a ground-floor double without an ensuite (which went unused), a mid-floor master with ensuite, and two further twin rooms with ensuites upstairs — sensible for a group that wants some separation without needing extra villas.
